PM4SD: a successful 5 days training event in Cardiff to boost leadership and cooperation in tourism

Cardiff Met recently hosted a professional development course in Project Management for Sustainable Development (PM4SD) – the first course of its kind in Wales.

PM4SD is an APMG International qualification that helps design and manage transformative projects and initiatives with:

  • integrated sustainability principles
  • benefits oriented approach
  • stakeholders engagement
  • a clear pathway to sustainability
  • a management methodology

The pilot course in Cardiff brought together 18 European delegates selected from the UK, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Malta, Portugal, The Netherlands and Germany, who successfully completed the Foundation and Practitioner Course. Participants were senior tourism planners, marketing experts, senior project managers and consultants, trainers, academics, researchers. The different background transformed the training event in a powerful peer to peer event.

The cohort included six members of staff from the Tourism, Hospitality & Events and Business Management departments in the Cardiff School of Management, with the view to becoming the first University in Wales to become an accredited training organisation in PM4SD.

The professional development course, which included two different levels, Foundation and Practitioner, was organised by the Cardiff School of Management, on behalf of the Erasmus + project Co-operation for Leadership in Tourism (CoLead Tourism). This training, which is part of a blended training, was the second event organized within the project. CoLead Tourism is a two-year project led by the consortium of Cardiff Met, Jlag, University of Malta and Bulgaria Economic Forum. The project aims to transfer, develop and innovate tourism knowledge based practices into innovative, professional and vocational teaching, training materials and methods using capacity-building tools, a new online platform and case study materials.

The expereince in Cardiff has inlcuded a very nice reception at the University and a very tasty dinner at a local pub.

During the training event Jonathan Karkut, from TouchTD, has presented another Erasmus Initiative, the SMARTOUR project and the online training tool http://smartour.dcnet.eu.
